After a wave of sightings in 1996, MK Avi Yehezkel asked Israel's Science Minister what the ministry knew about UFOs. The ministry answered that it had no authoritative information, could not verify testimony and would need a special office to do so. The minister had already turned down a professor's proposal for an investigation committee.
