Reality Check Rewind: Insp. Roy Teague on British police UFO accounts
Ross Coulthart interviews Inspector Roy Teague of West Midlands Police, author of Close Encounters of the Police Kind, which gathers about 75 of some 250 police accounts he has collected. Teague retells PC Paul Hammond's and WO1 David Frampton's sighting of a dart-shaped object from the Met police helicopter over London on 5 July 1997, whose infrared recording the crew let be taped over; PC William Humphrey Bishop's chase of two barrel-shaped objects in the same airspace about 18 years earlier; a radar track reported by PC Matthew Hope as an RAF technician in January 1993; and the Todmorden events of 1980 involving PC Alan Godfrey and Zigmund Adamski, among others.
Leads to follow
- PC Matthew Hope, January 1993, about 10 pm: as an RAF radar technician he says an object crossed the 640-mile early-warning display in 70 to 80 seconds (about 28,800 mph) with the equipment checked, and staff were told it did not happen. The base name is garbled ('RAF Benula', 'Bambbeck'); the early-warning role suggests RAF Fylingdales, not confirmed. Case only once the base is confirmed.
- Aldridge police station, September 1971: a chief inspector (name garbled, 'Leslie Lakeridge') with 12 photos, four showing a saucer's underside; prints came back blurred, and he says Hynek interviewed him.
- Aboyne 1989 ('Officer F', Grampian Police), Cefn Mably 2006 (PC Ian Stephen, police helicopter), A14 near Bury St Edmunds 1981 and A19 1973 (PC David Flanagan), Lulsgate Bottom 1966 (PC Hugh Stenner), Malta 2009 (PC Nick Barman): accounts in Teague's book; leads only.
- Teague was told (anonymously) that the 1987 Ilkley Moor witness 'Philip Spencer' may be Alan Godfrey; unconfirmed, and Teague stresses he is not saying it is so.
Notes
- From the daily YouTube watch, 4 Nov 2026 (backlog 31 Oct to 3 Nov). A Rewind repost; first aired about mid 2026.
- Teague's name is as captioned and in the transcript header; not independently checked. Captions give 'Cuddon' for the RAF officer's address (probably Croydon, not confirmed).
