December 1980: one week, several US nuclear bases in England
Rendlesham is usually told as one forest. In the same week, F-111 pilot Dan Isbell saw a silent triangle over the Upper Heyford golf course on the evening of 26 December, between the two Rendlesham nights, coming off a nuclear-alert shift. He tells it firsthand under his own name. An Earthfiles witness puts a large triangle at Upper Heyford the next night and the same craft over Croughton and Bentwaters. It joins the board's nuclear-sites thread with Malmstrom. The pattern is older: at Edwards in October 1965 flashing objects were tracked by several air-defense radars while nuclear-armed alert interceptors stood by, and the investigating officer wrote that everyone 'seems convinced that something unusual occurred'. Malmstrom followed in 1967.
