A saucer on engine stands in a Wright-Patterson hangar

In April 1962 or 1963 a naval exchange pilot flying with the 352nd Tactical Fighter Squadron was diverted to Wright-Patterson by weather. Running through a hangar, he says, he came on a small saucer on two engine stands under guard, seamless with no rivets or welds, and was later told by the wing's brigadier general that he had broken security. He told Leonard Stringfield in 1981 as 'PJ'; UAP Gerb identifies him as Rear Admiral Paul Stafford Johnson Jr.
How plausible · Low
A senior naval aviator with no gain told it privately to a researcher; the details fit Wright-Patterson's role, and the identity largely checks out.
- ●●Access Diverted fighter pilot on base.
- ●●No gain sought Told privately; never sought attention.
- ●●Character record Later a rear admiral.
- −Lone source, no corroboration One witness.
Plausibility weighs how well an account fits where secrecy hides the documents by design, so missing records never count against it. Strength measures what is documented. Assessed 2026-10-23.
