Wright-Patterson AFB & 'Hangar 18'

Wright-Patterson AFB & 'Hangar 18'

Home of the Air Force's foreign technology analysts, Project Sign and Project Blue Book. Lore holds that Roswell debris and bodies were flown here and stored in 'Hangar 18'. In December 2024 the base closed its airspace for hours because of unidentified drones.

On the record

  • Its role hosting Sign and Blue Book; the 2024 airspace closure.
  • Scientists research: The Air Force base that hosts AFRL headquarters and NASIC, and that ran Projects Sign, Grudge and Blue Book. It is the home of the 'Hangar 18' Roswell legend. McCasland commanded AFRL here, and Matthew Sullivan served at NASIC here, so the base is the center of gravity for the UFO reading of this case.
  • Projects Sign, Grudge and Blue Book were run from Wright Field / Wright-Patterson. Blue Book closed on 17 Dec 1969.
  • NASIC lineage: ATIC (1951), Foreign Technology Division (1961), NAIC (1993), NASIC (2003), all at Wright-Patterson.
  • 13 to 14 Dec 2024: the base closed its airspace for about four hours after small-drone incursions.
  • USAF Roswell reports (1994, 1997) deny that alien debris or bodies were recovered.
  • AARO Vol. 1 (Mar 2024) found no verified evidence of recovered non-human craft.
