BAASS monthly reports to DIA (March, April, June and November 2009)

Four of BAASS's monthly reports to the Defense Intelligence Agency from 2009, about 380 pages. They show the AAWSAP contractor at full strength: up to 51 staff, a data warehouse of 234,364 reports, MUFON rapid-response teams in the field, round-the-clock security at the Utah ranch, a deployment to Brazil for the Colares files, and an underground vault planned in North Las Vegas for 'exotic material or tissue'. Project Northern Tier on nuclear-base incursions was 'one of the sponsor's top priorities' in June, but by November it was on hold because 'BAASS currently does not have the Need to Know'.

Overview

  • Scale: 33 to 45 full-time staff, 234,364 reports in the warehouse, about 40 dated field cases with sensor and medical data.
  • Hardware and tissue: a vault for 'exotic material or tissue' designed by the Administrator; items seen in Brazil included a 'chip taken out of a human' and crash-site fragments.
  • Blocked: Northern Tier, classified archives and oral history went on hold for lack of Need to Know.

On the record

  • D169 (March 2009, 42 pp): staffing, warehouse counts, FAA reporting change, the Colares summary, UNLV scenario list that calls Phoenix 1997 an 'actual case'.
  • D170 (April 2009, 50 pp): MUFON STAR dispatch from 1 April; 319 US cases in April; Dardanelle, Pasadena and Scammon cases; Northern Tier plan for 1975-76.
  • D171 (June 2009, 134 pp): the vault, the Brazil deployment, 13 MUFON field cases including Fallon and Grants Pass, Northern Tier as a sponsor priority.
  • D173 (November 2009, 155 pp): Versailles, Stephenville, Port Jervis and Tomball cases, the Davis blue-orb medical case, ranch security logs, the Need-to-Know stall.

Open questions

  • Was the North Las Vegas vault built, and what went into it?
  • Who denied BAASS the Need to Know, and was Northern Tier taken over by another office?
  • Where are the Brazil items BAASS saw but did not take?
