Mission
Voyager 1 and 2 at Saturn
NASA's two Voyager probes flew past Saturn in November 1980 and August 1981. They discovered the ring spokes, the braided F ring and the north-polar hexagon (later confirmed by Cassini). Their public images are the source of Norman Bergrun's Ringmakers of Saturn plates.

On the record
- Spokes: discovered by Voyager in 1980; absent when Cassini arrived in 2004 and back in September 2005 as the season changed; the cause is still debated.
- F-ring braids: Voyager 1, 1980; now attributed to the shepherd moons Prometheus and Pandora.
