Battelle Memorial Institute

Battelle Memorial Institute

A Columbus, Ohio, research nonprofit. Under the code name Project Stork, it produced Project Blue Book Special Report No. 14 (1955), the largest statistical study of UFO reports of its time. Researchers say Battelle scientists also studied Roswell debris and pioneered 'memory metal' (nitinol) research that echoes the foil described by Roswell witnesses.

On the record

  • Blue Book Special Report No. 14, prepared by Battelle.
  • Project STORK (1952-55) and Howard Cross's memo of 9 Jan 1953.
  • The 1949 titanium-alloy progress reports for Wright-Patterson, naming E.J. Center.
  • OpenSecrets lobbying reports on S.4443 Title X (FY2025 NDAA).
